Nature, wildlife, history, adventure – experience it all with a day out in Somerset at one of Britain’s most spectacular natural landmarks, Cheddar Gorge!
From awe-inspiring cliffs to extraordinary subterranean caves, who knew Somerset was home to anything like this? Unearth secrets about our prehistoric ancestors and explore the striking landscape above – all within driving distance of Unity Beach!
Visitors can explore the caves, hike clifftop trails like Jacob’s Ladder or drive along the winding road through the gorge. There’s plenty of things to do, from cave tours and museums to adventurous activities which combine natural wonders with the gorge’s rich history.
Explore caves that are over 500,000 years old. Gough’s cave is the biggest of Cheddar’s show caves and is lined with up to 15-foot stalagmites and stalactites.
Did you know that the oldest complete human skeleton was found in Cheddar Gorge? Discover more about our past at the Museum of Prehistory.
The immersive multimedia experience at Cox’s Caves tells the captivating story of how the caves were formed.
And for the walkers amongst us, there’s a spectacular 3-mile route that takes you up one side of the gorge and back down the other. Your reward? Some of the finest views in Somerset! Perfect for the whole family (provided you don’t mind carrying everyone when those tired legs kick in).
Do you dare take on the Black Cat Freefall right in the heart of one of the UK’s biggest show caves? Or you could head underground in a unique caving adventure? Keen climbers can also challenge your strength through guided rock climbing sessions, or there are thousands of routes for experienced climbers.
