Brean Down

Just the spot for soaking up Somerset’s stunning coastline, and it’s right here on Unity Beach’s doorstep.

Rising 97 metres above sea level and stretching 1.5 miles across the Bristol Channel, Brean Down is a spectacular headland cared for by the National Trust. This limestone peninsula is a natural playground for walkers, history buffs and anyone who loves feeling the salt air billowing in their hair.

Views that go on (and on and on!)

Feeling fit? There’s an impressive climb to the top of Brean Down – and don’t worry, it’s definitely worth it! Reach the summit and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views.

Look back across Brean, Berrow and Burnham-on-Sea, or gaze north towards Weston-Super-Mare. On a clear day, you may even spot the coastline of South Wales sparkling in the distance. One to snap a pic of before you leave!

Walking through nature

Keep your eyes peeled. This National Trust site is home to wildflowers, butterflies and nesting seabirds – perfect for nature-lovers and teaching the kids a thing or two about the great outdoors. The walking routes here are some of the best in Somerset.

Bonus points if you catch a glimpse of the grazing goats clambering along the rocky slopes.

A scoop of history

Tucked away at the tip of the headland, you’ll find the remains of a 19th-century fort, once built to guard the coastline. These days, it’s a fascinating spot to explore, complete with hidden tunnels, crumbling walls and a real sense of stepping back in time – just waiting to spark a child’s imagination.
