A serene slice of the Yorkshire Coast, Mappleton is a dog-friendly beach and a local favourite for fossil hunting – just the recipe for a day out from Skirlington Coast!
The beach itself is a mixture of sand and shingle and is backed by stunning, towering red clay cliffs. It’s a quieter and lesser-known coastal spot, making it a great spot for holidaymakers looking for peace and space.
Let your pups run free on the wide, open stretch as you walk along the shoreline. Mappleton Beach is dog-friendly all year round, making it the perfect family day out.
The fast-eroding cliffs on Mappleton beach can often reveal fossils, so keep your eyes peeled. That said, there’s also plenty of treasures hidden in the sand, from cool pebbles and shells. It’s known as a great beachcombing spot for a reason!
Next to the car park there are public toilets and a small café. That’s about it for amenities though, so come prepared and remember to bring anything else you want or need for the day.
The cliffs at Mappleton Beach are some of the fastest eroding in Europe – so please avoid walking directly underneath them.
Mappleton is also a former Ministry of Defence bombing range, and you’ll find signs along the beach warning you not to pick up or move any unusual metal objects.
